Stuff About Me....

This is my first try at a web page. Been a ham since 1969. Extra since '83.  Was in MARS for 20 years but grew tired of it.

Previous calls include:  WN5ZCE, HL9KK, HL9JT, DA1KB, C31UM, WA4CGO, not necessarily in that order.  Been DX from Germany and Korea.  I've owned equipment from all major manufacturers.  Now my shack consists of an IC-756Pro III, TS-480 SAT, IC-703, Ameritron amp, MFJ auto tuner, Microham Digikeyer, HT's and mobiles for VHF.  Antennas right now are a multiband dipole, 4BTV, 6 Mtr vertical, 3 El. yagi for 2 Mtrs.

I enjoy contests, but only for the contacts... don't compete due to meidocre antennas. Check in regularly to the ATNM (Alabama Traffic Net Mike) on 3965.

I got interested in ham radio because my dad was a ham during my early teens.  He was a Technician class licensee and only worked 6 Mtrs.  Our next door neighbor was a ham too, and had a nice tower and Collins equipment.  I was in the Army Security Agency (ASA) my first enlistment of 4 years.  The ASA taught me CW for almost 20 weeks, so that was the easy part for me.  We were all copying recorded code wearing headphones, when suddenly an announcement came broke in that President Kennedy had been assasinated.

Been a member of the ARRL since about 1970.  I really like QST magazine.  I subscribe to CQ and World Radio also.  Also a member of the Calhoun County Emergency Radio Club (CCERC), right now being the acting Net Manager.
